sweet potato fries in the air fryer

Key Ingredients

You’ll find the full list of ingredients in the recipe card below, but here are some notes to keep in mind.

  • Sweet Potatoes. While purple and white sweet potatoes are fun, it’s the orange ones that make the best sweet potato fries.
  • Olive Oil. You can also make these fries with canola oil, avocado oil, or peanut oil.
  • Seasonings. Keep it simple with salt and pepper or switch it up with your favorite seasoning blends. Garlic and paprika are our go-to’s; see below for more ideas.

How to Make Sweet Potato Fries in the Air Fryer

Prepare. Peel and cut the sweet potatoes lengthwise into strips. Then, preheat the air fryer.

Season. Drizzle with oil and sprinkle with seasoning. Toss to coat.

Arrange. The sweet potatoes steam when crowded together, instead of getting crispy. For the best, most crispy results, cook the fries in a single layer so that the air has room to circulate.

Cook. Air fry sweet potato fries for 4 minutes, flip, then continue for 4 to 8 additional minutes, until they’re as crispy as you’d like. Sprinkle with a bit more salt to make the flavor pop. ENJOY!

Quick Tip

Compromise a Little Bit for Faster Fries. Don’t have time for multiple batches? For decent but not quite as crispy results, you can cook up to two layers of sweet potato fries at once. Be sure the layers are not tightly packed and toss the fries in the basket often to promote even cooking.

Recipe Variations

  • Cajun Sweet Potato Fries. Toss the fries in your favorite Cajun seasoning. Wait to season with salt to taste at the end, since Cajun seasoning blends typically already contain salt.
  • Spicy Sweet Potato Fries. Add 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper.
  • Parmesan Sweet Potato Fries. Top your air fried sweet potato fries with 1 to 2 tablespoons of freshly grated Parmesan.
  • Cinnamon Sweet Potato Fries. Toss the sweet potatoes with salt, a pinch of cinnamon, and a pinch of brown sugar.

Instructions

  • Scrub the sweet potatoes and peel if desired (I leave the peels on). Cut the sweet potatoes in half lengthwise. Turn the halves cut-side down onto your cutting board, the slice each half lengthwise into 1/4-inch-wide strips (a mandoline is the best way to get even fries; watch your fingers!).
sweet potato sticks sliced for air fryer
  • Turn the strips on their sides and cut each into 1/4-inch sticks. If the sticks are long, slice them in half crosswise so that your fries are about 3 to 4 inches. Transfer the fries to a large mixing bowl.
  • To keep the fries warm between batches, preheat the oven to 200°F and keep a baking sheet handy.
  • Drizzle the sweet potato fries with the oil and sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper. Toss to coat, making sure the spices and oil are well distributed.
sweet potato fries in a bowl
  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F according to the manufacturer’s instructions. (For my air fryer, that is 3 minutes of preheat time).

FOR SOMEWHAT CRISPY, HIGHLY SATISFYING SWEET POTATO FRIES IN FEWER BATCHES:

  • Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket, doing no more than two layers (my air fryer is 5 ½ quarts and I can add about ⅓ of the fries). Make sure the fries have plenty of room so that the air can circulate. Cook the sweet potato fries for 5 minutes.
  • Slide the basket out and use tongs to toss. Return to the air fryer and continue cooking for 5 to 7 additional minutes, until browned at the edges and crispy. The time can vary by several minutes based on your air fryer model and how done you like your fries. Check often during the last few minutes to make sure the fries don’t burn.

FOR SUPER CRISPY SWEET POTATO FRIES IN MORE BATCHES:

  • Place the sweet potatoes in just one layer in the basket, being careful that they do not overlap. Cook for 4 minutes, slide the basket out and flip, then continue cooking for 4 to 8 additional minutes, until the fries are as crispy as you would like (again, the time will vary based on your model, so check them several times and adjust as needed).
sweet potato fries in the air fryer
  • Remove the sweet potato fries to a baking sheet or a serving plate and immediately sprinkle with an additional pinch of kosher salt. Repeat with remaining sweet potatoes, keeping the cooked fries warm in the oven between batches as desired. Top with chives and enjoy!

Notes

  • *You can make the sweet potato fries with no oil if you prefer, but they will not be as crisp. Be sure to coat the fryer basket very well with nonstick spray.
  • In the recipe video, I am making a curry variation with salt, black pepper, and 1 tablespoon curry powder.
  • TO STORE: Refrigerate leftover sweet potato fries in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • TO REHEAT: For the best results, rewarm leftover fries in the air fryer at 375°F or in a 400°F oven (I like to preheat the pan in the oven while it warms up); spread the fries in a single layer on the hot pan and recrisp. Air fryer fries reheat better than regular fries, since the lesser amount of oil inherently prevents them from getting soggy.
  • TO FREEZE: Freeze fries in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid. Transfer to an airtight container or ziptop bag and freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat directly from frozen.

air fried broccoli in an air fryer

How to Make Air Fryer Broccoli

Chop. Cut the broccoli florets SMALL (think broccoli bites). This will give the insides a chance to tenderize before the outsides completely char.

Preheat the Air Fryer. Add the broccoli and water. Don’t overcrowd the basket!

Cook and Toss. Air fry broccoli for 8 to 12 minutes at 400 degrees F. Top as desired and ENJOY!

Tip

Air fryer vegetables are more firm than their roasted or sauteed counter parts. If you’d like your broccoli softer, you can blanch it, then blot dry before air frying.

air fried broccoli and cheese on a plate

Recipe Variations

  • Make It Cheesy. Sprinkle 2 to 3 tablespoons of freshly grated Parmesan over the broccoli after air frying, or sprinkle on a few handfuls of a melty cheese, such as cheddar or gruyere.
  • Add Some Citrus Flavor. Top the cooked broccoli with grated lemon zest and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
  • Give It a Kick. After the broccoli is cooked, toss it with a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Add Balsamic Vinegar. Drizzle the cooked broccoli with balsamic glaze or aged balsamic vinegar.
  • Make a Crispy Topping. Top with toasted breadcrumbs (be sure to try this Air Fryer Zucchini next; it has yummy breadcrumbs too).
  • Use Frozen Broccoli. Like this Roasted Frozen Broccoli, it doesn’t become *as* crisp as fresh broccoli, but it’s still tasty. Add the frozen broccoli florets to the air fryer at 400 degrees F and air fry for 5 minutes (this will allow the broccoli to thaw a bit and the seasonings to stick). Remove the florets to a mixing bowl and toss them with the oil and seasonings, then return to the air fryer and cook 6 to 10 additional minutes, tossing a few times throughout, until it is crisped to your liking.

Louisiana Voodoo Fries are a spicy favorite at Wingstop restaurant, and this copycat version lets you make them at home right in the oven or air fryer. The heat is tamed with cheese sauce and ranch. The combo is so magical, it’s hard to stop eating them!

Plate of voodoo fries topped with melted cheese and chopped chives, served with a cup of creamy dipping sauce.

Voodoo fries are going to be your fave.

cookbook author erin clarke of well plated

Why are they called voodoo fries, you ask? Because with one bite, they’ll have you under a spell!

And, okay, the Cajun seasoning. There’s a LOT of it. It makes these crispy oven-baked fries fiery in a way that keeps you coming back for more.

  • If game day go-tos like Buffalo Cauliflower Wings and Grilled Chicken Wings are still too mild for you, then it’s time to graduate to these mega spicy voodoo fries. (And if you prefer things a bit milder, just use less Cajun seasoning. We don’t heat shame around here.)
  • The fries are scrumptious on their own, but smothering them in from-scratch cheese sauce (Wingstop would NEVER), a generous drizzle of ranch, and chives or green onions makes them next-level delicious.
  • To save you the mess of deep frying, these fries are baked in the oven. I borrow some tricks from my Homemade Fries and Steak Fries to get them nice and crispy for you!
A plate of crispy voodoo fries topped with cheese sauce and chopped chives on a light-colored table.

Key Ingredients

You’ll find the full list of ingredients in the recipe card below, but here are some notes to keep in mind.

  • Extra-Virgin Olive Oil. Or another oil you like to use for cooking.
  • Russet Potatoes. The best potatoes for making into fries, in my humble opinion. Their starchiness equates to a fluffy interior when baked.
  • Seasonings. Cajun seasoning brings the heat, while garlic and onion powder bring the savory. Dill adds some dilly-ness, and I think you’ll agree that it’s an excellent addition to fries.
  • Ranch Dressing. Store-bought or try my Buttermilk Ranch Dressing. This brings down the heat of your voodoo fries.
  • Chives or Green Onions. For garnish, if you’d like.
  • Cheese Sauce. We’re going to make our own with butter, flour, milk, and freshly grated sharp cheddar.

Ingredient Tip

It’s important to shred your own cheese for these voodoo fries. Store-bought shredded cheese is coated in an anti-caking agent that keeps it from clumping in the package, but the same ingredient adds an unpleasant grittiness to a cheese sauce.

How to Make Voodoo Fries

Prepare. Set a rack in the lower third of the oven and preheat to 450ºF. Brush a sheet pan with oil, coating it evenly. (While parchment paper gives you easy cleanup, I’ve found that baked fries don’t get as crispy unless they’re in direct contact with the metal pan. It’s worth it!)

Soak the Potatoes. Scrub the potatoes and peel them if you’d like; slice them into fries, then add them to a bowl with hot water and let them sit for 10 minutes. Drain and dry. This step leeches out some of the excess starch for a crispier bite.

Season. Rinse and dry the bowl and add the potatoes back to it. Toss with the olive oil and seasonings.

Bake. Spread the fries in an even layer on the pan and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the bottoms are golden. Flip and cook for 5 to 10 minutes more, until they reach your desired crispiness.

Make the Cheese Sauce. Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat, then whisk in the flour. Once the flour is lightly browned, slowly whisk in the milk. Boil for a minute, then add the cheese a small handful at a time. Keep mixing until all the cheese is melted and smooth.

Serve. Transfer the fries to a platter if you’d like, or just leave them on the pan. Add the cheese sauce, ranch, and chives. ENJOY!

Recipe Variations

  • Make Protein Voodoo Fries. Crush your protein goals! Use my Cottage Cheese Queso instead of the cheese sauce.
  • Add Bacon. Crumble up some Air Fryer Bacon over the top. You can’t go wrong!
  • Sprinkle on Some Crumbled Andouille Sausage. Now we’re really doin’ it up Cajun style.

Course Appetizer
Cuisine American
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes
Servings 4 servings
Calories 302kcal

Ingredients

For the Fries:

  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil divided
  • 2 medium/large russet potatoes about 1 ¼ pounds
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dill weed
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • Ranch dressing optional
  • Chopped chives or green onions optional

For the Cheese Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk low fat or whole
  • 1 cup freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese 4 ounces

Instructions

  • Place a rack in the lower third of your oven and preheat to 450°F. Drizzle a large rimmed baking sheet with 1½ tablespoons of the oil, brushing it so that it coats the pan.
  • Scrub and peel the potatoes if desired (I leave the peels on). Cut into ¼-inch-wide sticks. Place in a large bowl, cover with very hot water so that the potatoes are covered by 1 inch. Let sit 10 minutes. Drain the potatoes, then use a clean towel to dry them as completely as you can.
Thin potato slices soaking in a glass bowl filled with water, on a light gray surface.
  • Rinse and wipe out the bowl you used to soak the potatoes, then return the potatoes to the bowl. Drizzle with the remaining 1½ tablespoons olive oil and sprinkle with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, dill weed, and onion powder. Toss to coat, making sure the spices and oil are evenly distributed, then spread the potatoes into a single layer on the oiled baking sheet.
Raw potato fries in a glass bowl, sprinkled with spices, on a light gray surface.
  • Roast in the lower third of the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, until turning golden underneath. Remove from the oven and, with a big spatula, gently loosen the fries from the pan, then flip them over in large sections. You don’t need to fuss over flipping every single one, just make sure they’re nicely rotated so they brown evenly. Spread back into a single layer, then continue roasting until they are golden and crisp as you like, about 5 to 10 additional minutes (we love crispy fries and bake them for 30 minutes).
A baking sheet with rows of seasoned, baked potato fries on a light-colored surface.
  • While the fries bake, make the cheese sauce: In a wide saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk it constantly for 1 full minute. Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly as you go so the sauce is smooth. Bring to a gentle boil and stir constantly for 1 minute; the mixture should reduce somewhat.
  • Slowly stir in the cheese a little bit at a time (don’t add too much at once or it will clump).
A metal whisk stirring creamy cheese sauce in a light gray pot on a textured gray surface.
  • Transfer the fries to a serving plate (or eat them right off of the sheet pan). Drizzle with the cheese sauce and Ranch dressing (if desired). Sprinkle with chives. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • TO MAKE IN THE AIR FRYER: Toss the sliced potatoes with 2 tablespoons oil and the spices (you won’t need the third tablespoon oil). Place half of them in your air fryer basket. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes until crisp, shaking the basket several times throughout, until they are crisped to your liking. Repeat with the remaining fries (you can keep batches warm in a 300°F oven if you like). Top with the cheese sauce and chives.
  • TO STORE: This is not a recipe that stores well (and I definitely wouldn’t attempt to freeze it). But if you can’t eat all of this deliciousness in one go, transfer your leftovers to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • TO REHEAT: Warm leftovers in a 400ºF oven until the fries and cheese sauce are heated through. The microwave also works, but the fries will be soggy.

Homemade chicken nuggets in the air fryer!

cookbook author erin clarke of well plated

If you (or your kids) are all about that chicken nugget life, I implore you to add these air fryer chicken nuggets to your menu ASAP.

They join my baked Chicken Nuggets, Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Tenders, and Chicken Tenders in the ranks of recipes that prove homemade puts store-bought and fast food to shame.

  • When you make your own chicken nuggets, you’re in control of the chicken you use—which means you can use the good stuff. We’re talking tender, juicy, chicken breasts here, no mystery meat!
  • The dominant flavors in a lot of restaurant chicken nugget breading are salt and fryer grease, but my version is made with seasoned breadcrumbs and paprika for some oomph
  • While they take a little more time than frozen nuggs and ordering from the drive-thru, this air fryer chicken nugget recipe is still easy as can be. Just dredge and air fry!
A bowl of crispy breaded air fryer chicken nuggets with a side of creamy white dipping sauce.

Key Ingredients

You’ll find the full list of ingredients in the recipe card below, but here are some notes to keep in mind.

  • Chicken. Use boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Tenders also work!
  • All-Purpose Flour. When combined with the egg and milk, the flour forms a “glue” that helps the breadcrumbs stick; it’s also a barrier between the chicken and the breadcrumb coating that keeps the coating from getting soggy.
  • Egg and Milk. For dredging the chicken.
  • Panko Breadcrumbs. These coarser breadcrumbs deliver the BIG crunch. A good alternative is very coarse homemade breadcrumbs.
  • Italian Seasoned Breadcrumbs. These bring the flavor and make the exterior crispy. I love using a combination of panko and regular breadcrumbs because they each have a different textural quality that makes the coating more pleasing.
  • Seasonings. Paprika and kosher salt.
  • Nonstick Spray. Or an olive oil mister. Using this to coat the chicken nuggets helps them crisp up in the air fryer.
  • Greek Yogurt Ranch. Or your go-to choice for dipping.

How to Make Chicken Nuggets in the Air Fryer

Coat the Chicken in Flour. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels, then add the pieces to a zip-top bag with the flour. Seal and shake-shake-shake, until each piece is evenly coated.

Prep Your Dredging Stations. Beat the egg and milk in a pie dish, then in another bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and seasonings. Set a parchment-lined baking sheet next to the breadcrumb mixture.

Dredge. Dip the chicken in the egg mixture, followed by the breadcrumbs. I like to use one hand for the wet mixture and the other hand for the dry mixture, or you can use chopsticks to keep your fingers clean. Gently press the nuggets in the breadcrumbs so they adhere. Set the breaded nuggets on a baking sheet.

Air Fry. Coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray and arrange the nuggets in a single layer inside. Spray the tops of the nuggets too, then air fry at 400 degrees F for 7 to 9 minutes, flipping halfway through. Repeat with the remaining air fryer chicken nuggets and ENJOY!

  • Air fry the chicken nuggets at 400°F for 7 to 9 minutes, pulling out the air fryer basket and flipping the pieces over once halfway through. Bang Bang Salmon Bites A bowl of bang bang salmon, avocado, edamame, cucumber, and rice, with chopsticks picking up a salmon piece.

Bang Bang Salmon Bites are a simple recipe that’ll take your weeknight dinners from womp womp to WOWZERS. Air fry (or bake) bite-sized pieces of salmon, toss them in a creamy, sweet, and spicy bang bang sauce, and enjoy endless ways of serving them up, from salads to tacos and meal bowls

The salmon recipe I just can’t stop making.

cookbook author erin clarke of well plated

When Ben and I made a video for this bang bang salmon recipe to share on Instagram, we couldn’t stop eating it. And—oops—we realized that we ate it all before I even got any still photographs to share on the blog.

But that’s okay, because it gave me an excuse to make it again. And again. And honestly, I just can’t stop making it because it is SO good!

  • The recipe starts with my Air Fryer Salmon Bites as the base, which are crispy, flaky, and cooked to perfection. I season them with honey and soy sauce for a sweet-and-savory combo that’s irresistible.
  • And then there’s the bang bang sauce, which is adapted from my Bang Bang Shrimp. Rather than using mayo, my version uses Greek yogurt as a healthy swap. (See why I’ve been eating it all the time lately?!)
  • Put them together for succulent little salmon bites you can eat as-is, pile into meal bowls, toss with a salad, or even make into tacos (a la my Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos). This recipe is versatile!

As if all of this isn’t reason enough to sing its praises, the whole shebang(bang) takes just around 10 minutes to make. Ten! Minutes!

A bowl with bang bang salmon, sliced cucumber, avocado, edamame, rice, cilantro, and a drizzle of creamy dressing.

Key Ingredients

You’ll find the full list of ingredients in the recipe card below, but here are some notes to keep in mind.

  • Salmon. Use center-cut salmon and remove the skin. I like to ask the seafood counter to do this for me.
  • Olive Oil. Avocado oil or another oil you like to use for air frying would also work. This helps the exterior of the bang bang salmon bites get crispy and golden.
  • Honey. Or swap in maple syrup if you prefer.
  • Soy Sauce. I use low-sodium soy sauce. For a gluten-free version, use tamari.
  • Seasonings. Paprika, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper.
  • Bang Bang Sauce. Whisk together Greek yogurt, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha. Easy!
  • For Serving. White or brown rice, edamame, avocado, cucumber, green onion, and/or cilantro.

What to Serve With Bang Bang Salmon

While I made this into more of a bang bang version of a Salmon Bowl, you can also serve the salmon as a main dish with a side. Here’s some inspiration.

Air Fryer Corn on the Cob is the EASIEST way to get a nice char and perfectly tender kernels! No grill or oven needed. Serve air fried corn with burgers, slice it off the cob for salads, and enjoy it all summer long.

The best corn is cooked in the air fryer (yes, for real!)

cookbook author erin clarke of well plated

Grilled Corn is one of the highlights of summer, but not every day is a corn grilling kind of day. Sometimes you’re busy! Maybe it’s raining! And those are the days when I make air fryer corn on the cob.

  • The process of cooking corn in the air fryer is easy and you only need corn, olive oil, and salt to make it—plus any toppings you like. (Butter for me, please!)
  • Like grilling, the air fryer gives you corn that’s charred and a little bit caramelized, which means the sweetness is concentrated and the flavor is slightly smoky. It’s fabulous!
  • If you’re looking for corn to use for Mexican Street Corn Salad or elotes, this air fryer corn on the cob is PERFECT!
Three air fryer corn on the cob topped with melting butter and sprinkled with chopped parsley, served on a white plate with a small bowl of salt nearby.

My Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Corn on the Cob

  • Choose the Best Corn. This is always the best tip for any recipe involving corn! Nothing ruins a dish like bland, under-ripe corn. Look for silk and husks that are moist without being wet, and large, plump kernels that extend all the way to the end.
  • Get All the Silk Off. They sell tools for this, but you can use a small handheld dish brush instead. Gently rub it on the corn to remove any stray strands of silk.
  • Cook in Batches (or Not). For max charring, you may need to cook the corn in batches to fit them into your air fryer basket while still leaving enough space for air to circulate. If you crowd the corn in the basket, it will steam, which is fine too, you’ll just miss out on that charred flavor.

What to Serve with Air Fryer Corn

  • Burgers. Serve corn with a Smash Burger or keep your meal meatless with a Vegan Burger.
  • Proteins. Like air fried corn, this Baked BBQ Chicken has grilling vibes without the grill!
  • Salads. Slice the kernels off the cob and add them to this Healthy Taco Salad.
  • Toppings. I love slathering this air fryer corn with butter and sprinkling on fresh herbs. Compound butter is delicious too, as is a squeeze of lime juice or a sprinkling of cotija or Parmesan.

Ingredients

  • 4 ears corn shucked with silks removed
  • 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt plus additional for serving
  • Butter, ground black pepper, freshly chopped basil, chives, parsley, or cilantro, for serving

Instructions

  • Place the corn in a baking dish or on a rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with the oil, then sprinkle with salt. Rub all over to coat the corn evenly.
Four ears of corn on the cob, with yellow and white kernels, are arranged side by side on a metal baking tray. The tray sits on a light-colored surface.
  • Arrange the corn in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook it in batches. My basket-style air fryer can hold two ears at a time.
Four ears of uncooked corn on the cob arranged inside the basket of a black air fryer, placed on a light textured surface.
  • Air fry at 390°F until the corn kernels are softened and the corn is lightly charred at the edges, about 12 to 15 minutes (note the kernels will continue to soften a bit as the corn cools). Halfway through the cook time, use tongs to flip the corn over so it cooks evenly.

Protein-packed Cottage Cheese Bagels are shockingly fluffy, chewy, and delicious with 11g protein each. All you need is flour, cottage cheese, and baking powder. No yeast, no rising, and no boiling—make them in the air fryer or oven!

A new way to work cottage cheese into your day!

cookbook author erin clarke of well plated

If you’re all about that protein life, then I bet you’re all about that cottage cheese life too. I’m always brainstorming new and inventive ways to use cottage cheese to add nutrition to my favorite foods.

Some are hits: Cottage Cheese Pancakes, Protein Ice Cream. Some are misses. (I’ve made Ben promise to never speak of the time I tried to see if I could make a latte with cottage cheese.) And some, like these cottage cheese bagels, are TOTALLY life-changing.

If you’ve made my Air Fryer Protein Bagels, then you’ll be familiar with the concept: bagels that are leavened with baking powder instead of yeast and baked in the air fryer.

  • They’re tender yet chewy, just like a good bagel should be. Are they indistinguishable from a bagel you’d pick up at a deli in NYC? No! But they are really, really good!
  • Unlike traditional bagels, these cottage cheese bagels don’t need to rise and they don’t need to be boiled. Just bake them in your air fryer!
  • Compared to my protein bagels, these cottage cheese bagels have less tang to them since I’ve swapped out the Greek yogurt with cottage cheese.

Give them a try and I promise, you will be impressed! These are way better than the “healthy bagels” you find at the grocery store.

A close-up of an everything cottage cheese bagel with sesame and poppy seeds inside an air fryer basket, with part of another bagel visible on the side.

My Best Tips for Making Cottage Cheese Bagels

  • Use Full-Fat Cottage Cheese. The fat in the cottage cheese is crucial for achieving a nice, tender texture. You can use low-fat if you absolutely must (the bagels will be less soft if you do), but do not use fat-free cottage cheese.
  • Add Some Whole Grains. I use a 50/50 mix of whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour to work some extra whole grains into this recipe. If you prefer not to do so, you can use entirely all-purpose flour.
  • Make Sure Your Baking Powder Is Fresh. If your bagels don’t rise in the air fryer, the culprit is most likely baking powder that is past its prime. It’s always important to use fresh baking powder in baking, but even more so in a recipe like this where there are no other ingredients in the dough that promote rising.
  • Air Fry Them in Batches. The cottage cheese bagels will need room in the air fryer basket for air to circulate; many air fryers will be able to accommodate all four bagels at once, but if yours is on the smaller side, it’s better to air fry them in batches. Or, see directions to bake in the oven.
  • A Note About Toasting. These bagels don’t toast the way a traditional bagel would. That’s not to say they can’t be toasted—they’ll get warm (of course!) and toast a bit on the cut sides, but they never get the same level of crispiness or browning.

How to Make Cottage Cheese Bagels

Blend the Cottage Cheese. Blend it until it’s completely smooth, either in a blender or food processor.

Make the Dough. Whisk the dry ingredients and make a well in the middle. Add the cottage cheese to the well and stir to combine.

Knead. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for a minute or two, until it comes together in a smooth dough.

Form the Bagels. Divide the dough into four equal sections. Roll each into a role, then connect the ends to form a ring. Place the bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and add your toppings of choice.

Air Fry or Bake. Bake the cottage cheese bagels at 350 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes, or until baked through and golden brown. Cool slightly then ENJOY!

Ideas for Using These High Protein Bagels

  • The Classic Options. Cream cheese, Smoked Salmon, capers, some fresh dill.
  • Sandwiches. Instead of bread, use protein-packed cottage cheese bagels for your ham and cheese or turkey and Swiss!
  • Pizza Bagels. HECK. YES. Add marinara, mozzarella, and your favorite toppings.
  • Hummus and Cucumber. This is one of my favorites: add a generous layer of Homemade Hummus, slices of cucumber, and some Pickled Red Onions.
  • Bagel Egg in a Hole. Add an egg to your bagel for even more protein!

Restaurant tortilla chip vibes in the air fryer.

cookbook author erin clarke of well plated

When you go to a Mexican restaurant and they set out a bowl of Salsa Roja and tortilla chips, it’s not possible not to partake.

Because they (usually) make those chips from scratch each day, they are super crispy and much tastier than store-bought. So simple, but so good they’re almost magical. But… they are deep-fried.

  • These air fryer tortilla chips swap the deep frying for the air fryer with incredible results.
  • They’re light and crisp, not greasy at all, and they’ve got the flavor of fresh chips made with tortillas.

You can use either corn tortillas or flour tortillas to make these air fryer tortilla chips. I love making this recipe when I have leftover tortillas after I make our go-to Vegetarian Enchiladas or Salmon Tacos for dinner!

A green plate filled with triangular, golden-brown air fryer tortilla chips, sprinkled with salt. A small blue bowl of red salsa is placed on the plate. A glass with a lime wedge is visible at the top left corner. Chips are scattered on a light surface.

My Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Tortilla Chips

This recipe is pretty self-explanatory, but here are some tips to make sure your tortilla chips are perfection.

  • Accept the Fact That You’ll Need Multiple Batches. While I’ve experimented with Air Fryer French Fries and realized that you can actually get good results with layering, that’s not the case for air fryer tortilla chips. They’re just not going to have the crispiness you want if they’re overlapping in the air fryer basket.
  • Spice Them Up. Feeling extra? Swap the salt for taco seasoning, chili powder, or even ranch seasoning. (If the seasoning you’re using doesn’t have salt in it, you’ll want to add salt and the seasoning.) For some lime flavor, use True Lime powder.
  • Make Strips Instead. Cut the tortillas into strips instead of wedges for the perfect topper for a Healthy Taco Salad or Chicken Enchilada Soup.

How to Make Tortilla Chips in the Air Fryer

Cut the Tortillas. Stack your tortillas and use a knife or pizza cutter to slice them into 6 wedges.

Start Air Frying. Place the tortilla wedges in the air fryer basket in a single layer. It’s okay if they touch, but no overlapping! Coat the tops with cooking spray and sprinkle with salt. Cook for 3 minutes.

Flip Them. Turn the chips over, then mist them again with more cooking spray and add more salt. Air fry for 2 more minutes.

Serve. Transfer the finished chips to a plate and start the next batch. ENJOY!
